Big V Round 3 (Regular Season): RMIT beat McKinnon by three after a very close game

There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of Big V and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 3 in the Big V took place in McKinnon. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of Cougars (1-2) to Redbacks (3-0) 103-100 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. RMIT looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by McKinnon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Stephen Coffey who led his team to a victory with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 17 assists and 4 steals. American forward Devon Vanderheydt (198, college: Lewis) contributed with 31 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Troyce Manassa (193-1993, college: SSU) answered with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals for McKinnon. Cougars' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Redbacks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cougars will play on the road against Warrandyte (#6) in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of Venom (2-2) against Camberwell (2-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Venom was defeated by Camberwell in Melbourne 85-69. It was a great evening for American forward Jackson Meshanic (201-2000, college: Hobart) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Ayuel Ayuel helped adding 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Lanyc Shuler (185, college: West Liberty) with 33 points (!!!) (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Camberwell will play against Hume City (#5) in Tullamarine in the next round. Venom will play at home against Bellarine and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Pacers (3-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed Melbourne Uni (0-3) 120-92. It was a quality performance for Matt Berkec who led the winners and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Fred Sims Jr. came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for Melbourne Uni in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pacers will meet at home Wyndham (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Melbourne Uni will play against Pakenham and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Wyndham was smashed by Sunbury on the road 99-72. Hume City won against Pakenham on its own court 92-79. Camberwell outscored Bellarine in Melbourne 97-77.
The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 20 points and 9 assists by Mitchell Barry of McKinnon.



Sunbury - Wyndham 99-72

Jets used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Werribee 99-72 on Saturday night. Sunbury forced 19 Wyndham turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Ishmael Sanders (188-1992, college: C-N) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. Canadian forward BB Chuks-Mady (201, college: LeMoyne) accounted for 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Jets players scored in double figures. Jets' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Malik Miller (205-1995, college: FDU) came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds and guard Nicholas Black (190-2001, college: Iowa Central) added 13 points respectively for Wyndham in the defeat. Jets will meet at home Hume City (#5) in the next round. Devils will play against Gippsland Utd and hope to win that game.

Very important is a road loss of Venom (2-2) against Camberwell (2-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Venom was defeated by Camberwell in Melbourne 85-69. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when Warriors (1-2) lost to Hume City Broncos (2-2) in Tullamarine 79-92 on Saturday. Hume City made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Robbie Heath (190-1998, college: Pepperdine) who led the winners and scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Ricardo Time (188, college: Idaho Coll.) accounted for 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. American forward Ryan Batte (198-1999, college: Thomas More) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and forward Atien Acuel (201-2001, agency: Crossover Management) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Pakenham in the defeat. Five Hume City and four Pakenham players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hume City Broncos will meet Sunbury (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Warriors will play against Melbourne Uni (#11) and hope to win that game.

There was a surprise result when Camberwell (2-2) rolled over Storm (1-2) in Bellarine 97-77 on Sunday. Camberwell dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 36. Camberwell outrebounded Bellarine 42-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for forward Jackson Meshanic (201-2000, college: Hobart) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. point guard Brennen Burns (178-2002, college: SHSU) accounted for 11 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Guard Nick Carlson (193-2000, college: St.Scholastica, agency: Crossover Management) came up with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Jayden Brown (203, college: CCSU, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Bellarine in the defeat.
