The Cook Islands Basketball Federation will send only a men team in the South Pacific Games which will be held in Samoa in late August. The women national team will not travel to Samoa. Only seven teams submitted a roster for the women tournament including the traditional Pacific powerhouses Fiji, Samoa, New Caledonia and Tahiti.

Open Division: Puaikura defeated Takitumu - Sep 26, 2006 (by Eurobasket)
In the Open Women's division Takitumu were in the lead at the end of the first quarter but Puaikura would not let them lead again in the game. With a much younger team on paper Takitumu were expected to run the legs off the Puaikura team and run to victory. When Takitumu powerhouse Lucy was fouled out of the game Puaikura knew they were home with the victory.

The Under 20 girls game was a clash of the number 11's. On one side you had Richelle for Puaikura and on the other you had Jolyn for Takitumu. Between the 2 girls they scored 60% of the total game score but Richelle and her teamates came out with the win. Takitumu had height on their side but could not match the quickness of the Puaikura girls.

The Under 20 girls game was a clash of the number 11's. On one side you had Richelle for Puaikura and on the other you had Jolyn for Takitumu. Between the 2 girls they scored 60% of the total game score but Richelle and her teamates came out with the win. Takitumu had height on their side but could not match the quickness of the Puaikura girls. When Takitumu got into foul trouble and had some players fouled out the game, Puaikura seized their opportunity and pulled away for the win 62-40. Richelle scored a game-high 35pts while Jolyn recorded 26pts. |
