Mark Seccombe (180-G) is in Fiji as an Australian Youth Ambassador for the development of basketball athletes. 'We are happy to have Mark with us here sharing his experiences and bringing all sorts of helpful ideas,' said Basketball Fiji development officer, Fanny Simpson.
Seccombe, who is from Sydney, has a bachelor's degree in sports science, had successfully applied to be a youth ambassador and is in Fiji for a year. Seccombe has participated in many Australian-wide tournaments and played briefly in the USA and Canada while on tour. He also competed in the Raiwaqa Revival tournament, playing for the USP team, which ended two weeks ago and also helped out with the Raiwai Youth program. He aims to take basketball to the grassroot level and has succeeded by signing in eight primary schools for next year's season as part of his development program. Veiuto, Stellar Marist, Yat San, John Wesley, Gospel, Latter Day Saints, International and Delainamasi are the eight contending primary schools. They have also managed to recruit seven interested primary schools from the West. 'Next year will be a very busy year for us,' Simpson said.
This is also the first time Basketball Fiji is taking basketball programs to the primary level, says Simpson.
