NBL One Round 2 (Regular Season): Cockburn lose to Giants

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in NBL One. The round was exceptionally exciting as six games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game of round 2 took place in Kalgoorlie where Giants crushed Cougars 106-66 on Saturday night. Goldfields G. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars's 34 and made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Goldfields G. forced 22 Cockburn turnovers. Swingman Joshua Duach (197-2003, college: Iona) had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward De'Sean Parsons (201-1995, college: Portland St.) chipped in 24 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Center Chan Nai (208-2000, college: Baton Rouge) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cougars will play next round against Joondalup W. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Giants will try to continue on its current victory against SW Slammers in Bunbury.
Forestville Eagles recorded a loss in Mt. Barker. Visitors were edged by Eastern Mavericks 120-119. American guard Broderick Robinson (185-1995, college: UMKC) notched 41 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and BJ Symons supported him with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Even 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 6 assists by the former international center Daniel Johnson (212-1988, college: Pepperdine) did not help to save the game for Forestville E.. Eastern Mavericks will play against Southern T. in Morphett Vale in the next round. Forestville Eagles will play at home against Woodville W. to get more than just one victory in their record.
Quite upsetting was Sydney C.'s home defeat in a game versus Illawarra H. 2 84-77. The best player for the winners was Kobe McDowell-White who scored 32 points and 5 assists. Obi Kyei produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Illawarra H. 2 will meet Newcastle F. in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sydney C. will play against HKBA Spiders in Hornsby and hope to win that game.

They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Geraldton B.'s players. The best player for the winners was American swingman CJ Turnage (201-1995, college: SVSU) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. Guard Ethan Elliott (190-2004, college: Trinity Baptist) chipped in 30 points and 6 assists. Five Wanneroo players scored in double figures. American guard Akeem Springs (193-1994, college: Minnesota) produced a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds and guard Johny Narkle (199-2001) added 28 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Wanneroo will meet Cockburn in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Buccaneers will play against Perth R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
