The round was exceptionally exciting as four games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
There was a change at the Big V leadership position after last games. Round 18 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Frankston Blues (8-3). They were defeated by second ranked Knox Raiders (8-4) 87-78 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Frankston Blues. They outrebounded Frankston Blues 47-35 including 33 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Knox Raiders made 8 blocks. American point guard KJ Feagin (185-1997, college: SDSU) scored 30 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Wayne Stewart Jr (201, college: A&M-Commerce) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Knox Raiders' coach Matthew Nunn used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Daniel Trist (206-1992, college: Lafayette) with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Knox Raiders have an impressive six-game winning streak. Despite that victory Knox Raiders went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Joondalup W. and Sandringham S. Frankston Blues at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. They were replaced at the leadership position by Perry Lakes H.. Frankston Blues will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Knox Raiders will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Waverley Falcons in Mount Waverley.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Eltham Wildcats as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Frankston Blues) loss. Eltham Wildcats defeated 17th ranked Ringwood Hawks at home 104-99. Power forward Callum Dalton (207-2000) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Joshua Sykes supported him with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Even a double-double of 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) by American forward Kyle Daggett (198-1999, college: Shepherd) did not help to save the game for Ringwood Hawks. Eltham Wildcats have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Ringwood Hawks at the other side dropped to the fourteenth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Melbourne T. and NW Tasmania. Ringwood Hawks will play next round against Thunder trying to get back on the winning streak. Eltham Wildcats will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
