The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

State League round 21 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader Hawks (14-4) against eighth ranked Wanneroo (8-9) 79-70 was the most important game of the last round. It was a good game for guard Lochlan Cummings (189-95, college: HIU) who led his team to a victory with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. New Zealand forward Sioeli Vaiangina (202-98, college: Panola JC) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Ben Purser (200-90, college: Augusta) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Hawks. Wanneroo maintains eighth place in League with 8-9 record. Hawks at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sturt S.. Hawks will play next round against Eagles trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Wanneroo will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Tigers in Willetton.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Lightning as it allowed them to take a leadership position in League. Lightning smashed 8th ranked Wanneroo in North Lake 106-79. Guard Rowan Mackenzie (190-99, college: LCU) stepped up and scored 30 points and 6 assists for the winners and Jack Isenbarger chipped in 15 points and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Jonathan Wade (196-93, college: Norfolk St.) with 29 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Wanneroo at the other side keeps the eighth place with nine games lost. Wanneroo will play next round against strong Tigers trying to get back on the winning streak. Lightning will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Cougars at Hamilton Hill.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Tigers (10-5) against ninth ranked Cougars (7-9) on Saturday night. Host Tigers were crushed by Cougars in Willetton 96-76. Nic Pozoglou nailed 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Michael Vigor came up with 12 points for Tigers in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cougars maintains ninth place in League with 7-9 record. Loser Tigers dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Cougars will meet at home league's leader Lightning in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tigers will play against Wanneroo in Joondalup and hope to secure a win.

In League RedCity R. were beaten by Gold Coast R. on the road 106-91. Mackay M. won against Ipswich F. on its own court 79-75. Brisbane C. unfortunately lost to Cairns M. in a road game 82-97. Northside W. rolled over RedCity R. at home 107-78. Ipswich F. defeated Rockhampton on the opponent's court 80-71. Logan T. smashed SD Spartans in a home game 132-99. Gold Coast R. destroyed SW Metro P. on the road 114-84. SC Phoenix unfortunately lost to USC Rip on its own court 99-106. Brisbane C. recorded a loss to Townsville H. in Hermit Park 90-100. Cockburn C. defeated Warwick S. at home 104-102. Willetton T. was beaten by Perry Lakes H. on the opponent's court 105-88. Rockingham F. destroyed SW Slammers in a home game 103-67. Perth R. unfortunately lost to Geraldton B. on the road 67-68. SW Slammers managed to beat Goldfields G. on its own court 86-81. East Perth E. was crushed by Warwick S. in Perth 112-70. Eastern Suns was beaten by Mandurah M. at home 75-85. Goldfields G. were destroyed by Mandurah M. on the opponent's court 95-73. Eastern Suns unfortunately lost to Lakeside L. in a home game 90-105.

Gold Coast R. - RedCity R. 106-91

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Rollers (8-4) beat 12th ranked Roar (3-8) in Gold Coast 106-91 on Friday. Rollers outrebounded Roar 49-36 including 19 on the offensive glass. Guard Jaryd Eustace (201-94, college: Miami, OH) nailed a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and swingman Tom Howard (200-95) accounted for 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Rollers players scored in double figures. Point guard Kobe McDowell-White (183-4) came up with 29 points and 5 assists and point guard Darryl McDowell-White (183-97, college: Master's) added 15 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively for Roar in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rollers maintains fourth place in League with 8-4 record. Loser Roar keeps the twelfth position with eight games lost. Rollers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Roar will play against Townsville Heat (#3) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game when 11th ranked Ipswich Force (5-7) lost on the road to second ranked Mackay Meteors (9-3) 79-75 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Mackay Meteors looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Guard Chris Cedar (188-88) nailed 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and the former international center Harrison Froling (211-98, college: Marquette) accounted for 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Mackay Meteors players scored in double figures. Guard Isaac White (188-98, college: CBU) came up with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Jason Ralph (178-95, college: VCSU) added 6 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for Ipswich Force in the defeat. Ipswich Force's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mackay Meteors maintains second place in League with 9-3 record having seven points less than leader Sturt S. Loser Ipswich Force dropped to the tenth position with seven games lost. Mackay Meteors will meet at home Cairns Marlins (#6) in the next round. Ipswich Force will play against Rip City (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Cairns Marlins (6-4) won against at home 5th ranked Brisbane Capitals (7-7) 97-82 on Friday. Cairns Marlins made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Cairns Marlins outrebounded Brisbane Capitals 39-23 including 28 on the defensive glass. South Sudanese forward Majok Deng (208-93, college: ULM) nailed a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds for the winning side and guard Mirko Djeric (193-95) accounted for 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Nicholas Stoddart (-0) came up with 34 points (!!!) and 5 assists and center Ben Volkman (206, college: Maryville, MO) added 28 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) respectively for Brisbane Capitals in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cairns Marlins moved-up to sixth place in League. Cairns Marlins will meet league's second-placed Mackay Meteors on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
