NBL One Round 17 of Regular Season

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in NBL One. The round was exceptionally exciting as six games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Fifth defeat of league's leader Capitals (8-5) against second ranked Phoenix (9-4) 88-83 was the most important game of the last round. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Guard Jamaal Robateau (196-1994, college: Gardner-Webb) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (198-1991, college: Missouri, agency: Haylett Sports) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international swingman Samuel McDaniel (198-1995, college: ULM) answered with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Brisbane C.SC Phoenix keeps a position of league leader. Brisbane C. at the other side dropped to the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Mackay. They were replaced at the leadership position by Illawarra H. 2. Brisbane C. will play next round against Northside W. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. SC Phoenix will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked SD Spartans in Brisbane.
Leading Raiders (17-5) recorded its fifth loss in Melbourne. Hosts were edged by eighth ranked Miners (14-8) 95-92. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Raiders. American forward Dayne Prim (198-2001, college: TAMUCC) stepped up and scored 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Luke Rosendale chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. Miners' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Forward Keli Leaupepe (198-2000, college: LMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds. Miners have a solid series of four victories in a row. Ballarat M. moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams. Knox R. at the other side still keeps top position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Rockingham between Flames and Tigers. First ranked Flames (17-3) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Tigers (14-6). Flames managed to escape with a 3-point win 105-102 on Friday evening. Isaac White nailed a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side. Flames' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Tana Kopa came up with 30 points and 5 rebounds for Willetton T. in the defeat. Flames have a solid series of three victories in a row. Rockingham F. maintains first place with 17-3 record. Loser Tigers keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Rockingham F. will meet Lakeside L. (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Willetton T. will play against Cockburn (#12) and hope to secure a win.

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Noarlunga City Southern Tigers (6-12) beat 6th ranked Sturt Sabres (6-12) in Pasadena 79-70 on Saturday. American forward Jarvis Doles (203-1998, college: UMBC, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) nailed 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Jarvis Summers (190-1993, college: Ole Miss, agency: Haylett Sports) accounted for 8 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Doles is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Jordan Forbes (193-1998, college: Salem) came up with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists and the former international center Benjamin Griscti (211-2002, college: UC Riverside) added 20 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Sturt S. in the defeat. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by N.Adelaide R.'s players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Forestville E. made 8 blocks. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Canberra B. outrebounded Maitland 50-36 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Canberra B. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Forward William Mayfield (-2000) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and forward Cameron Pender (199-2004) accounted for 8 points and 20 rebounds.
