State League is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 12 rounds left. The round was exceptionally exciting as four games ended with a tiny margin. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Brisbane Capitals as it allowed them to take a leadership position in League. Brisbane Capitals defeated 6th ranked Brisbane Spartans at home 86-70. It was a key game for the top position in League. Brisbane Capitals outrebounded Brisbane Spartans 52-33 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Brisbane Spartans helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Nicholas Stoddart (-0) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and center Ben Volkman (206, college: Maryville, MO) who added 10 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Josh Derksen (206-95, college: KWC) with 21 points. Brisbane Spartans' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Brisbane Spartans at the other side dropped to the eighth place with one game lost. Brisbane Spartans will play next round against Rip City trying to get back on the winning streak. Brisbane Capitals will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Northside Wizards in Taigum.
Undefeated Phoenix (1-1) recorded its first loss in Taigum. Visitors were edged by ninth ranked Northside Wizards (1-1) 86-83. The winners were led by guard Jesse Ghee (183, college: Fullerton JC) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 10 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists and Kyle Logan supported him with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Even 34 points (!!!) by guard Jamaal Robateau (196, college: Gardner-Webb) did not help to save the game for Phoenix. Northside Wizards left bottom position moving up to sixth place in League. Northside Wizards will play against higher ranked Thunder (#3) in Loganholme in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Phoenix will play on the road against Roar (#7) in Brisbane and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Sutherland Sharks' home defeat in a game versus Mustangs who edged hosts 90-87. The best player for the winners was Daniel Millburn who scored 28 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Geoffrey Gerlach who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Sutherland Sharks' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mustangs (5-3) moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Sutherland Sharks dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Mustangs will meet Bulls (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Sutherland Sharks will play against Newcastle Hunters (#10) and hope to secure a win.
A very interesting game took place in Mt Gambier. It ended with only two-point home defeat of top-ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (6-2) to thirteenth ranked Ballarat Miners (3-5) 88-86 on Saturday evening. It was a good game for William Hickey who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds. Ballarat Miners moved-up to twelfth place in League. Mount Gambier Pioneers at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Ballarat Miners' next round opponent will be higher ranked Spectres (#8) in East Burwood and it may be quite challenging game. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play on the road against Woodville Warriors (#5) in Flinders Park and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Floreat. Sixth ranked Flames (3-2) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging second-best Hawks (4-1) 77-74 on Friday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Cirkook Riak who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Flames maintains sixth position in League with 3-2 record. Loser Hawks keep the second place with one game lost. Flames will face Cougars (#10) in Hamilton Hill in the next round. Hawks will play on the road against Buccaneers (#11) in Wonthella and hope to win that game.

Winless Ipswich F. unfortunately lost to Cairns M. at home 72-83. Winless SW Metro P. recorded a loss to RedCity R. on the opponent's court 78-83. Townsville H. crushed Rockhampton in a home game 103-73. Winless Ipswich F. lost to undefeated Logan T. on the road 69-79. Geelong S. was destroyed by Frankston B. on its own court 72-91. Knox R. was outscored by Nunawading S. in East Burwood 95-66. Dandenong R. rolled over Hobart C. at home 105-86. Kilsyth C. was crushed by Diamond V.E. on the opponent's court 94-66. Eltham W. was smashed by NW Tasmania in a home game 68-94. Albury W.B. was destroyed by Ringwood H. on the road 96-76. Kilsyth C. was outscored by NW Tasmania on its own court 63-98. Cent.Coast C. was beaten by Bankstown B. in Condell Park 80-77. Manly Warr. destroyed Illawarra H. 2 at home 89-61. BA CoE outscored Hornsby S. on the opponent's court 103-64. Canberra G. managed to beat Hills H. in a home game 68-59. Sydney C. defeated Newcastle H. on the road 80-70. Maitland M. beat Bankstown B. on its own court 79-70.

Western Port - Wyndham D. 87-91

Very expected game in Western Port where 10th ranked Steelers (1-8) were defeated by second ranked Devils (8-2) 91-87 on Saturday. Devils dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Steelers' 18. They outrebounded Steelers 49-35 including 34 on the defensive glass. Devils looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Stefan Pomasan who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 9 assists and Tomi Ayilara who added 21 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. Devils' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Jack Gaze with 25 points and 5 rebounds and center Matthew Turner (210-87) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds. Four Devils and five Steelers players scored in double figures. Devils maintains second position in League with 8-2 record having just ten point less than leader Warwick S. Loser Steelers keep the tenth place with eight games lost. Devils will face Hume City Broncos (#3) in Tullamarine in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Steelers will play on the road against Vikings (#9) in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a small surprise in McKinnon where fifth ranked Hume City Broncos (6-3) defeated one of their biggest challengers Cougars (6-3) 94-78 on Saturday. Hume City Broncos shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of Jake Martin who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 9 rebounds and Shayan Mahboobi who added 22 points and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Jordan Geer with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard Luke Shelley (188-91, college: KWC) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hume City Broncos moved-up to third place in League. Hume City Broncos will face league's second-placed Devils in Werribee in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
