Marcel Jones
Newly promoted Al-Riffa (Premier League) added to their roster 32-year old American (has also New Zealander passport) forward Marcel Jones (203-99kg-85, college: Oregon State). He played last summer at Canterbury in New Zealand NBL league. Jones managed to play in five leagues in three countries last year (!!!). In 19 NBL games he was second best scorer with impressive 21.7ppg and had 8.8rpg (#5 in the league) and 2.8apg. Jones helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very spectacular season in his career as he was selected Australiabasket.com All-New Zealand NBL Forward of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to All-Domestic Players Team.
Part of last season he spent at Helios in Slovenian Liga Nova KBM where in 10 games he recorded very remarkable stats: 15.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.4apg and 1.0spg. Jones also played that season for Sigal Prishtina (SuperLeague) in Kosovo. The team played in three different competitions that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 6 SuperLeague games he averaged 12.2ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7apg. Jones also played 4 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he got 4.8ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.0apg. He also played 2 games in Balkan League where he got 5.0ppg, 1.0rpg and 1.0apg.
In 2008 Jones was drafted by Iowa Energy (D-League) in fourth round (50th overall).
He attended Oregon State and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Jones' team won New Zealand NBL Regular Season in 2010 and 2016.
He is quite experienced player. Jones' career allowed him to visit four different continents, while he played in eleven different countries. Jones tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Australia and of course North America. He has played previously professionally in Bosnia (HKK Zrinjski HT Mostar), Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy (MIA-RO Cantu and Eurotrend Biella), Romania (Pitesti), Syria (Al Wahda), Turkey (Akhisar Bld), United Kingdom and Kosovo (Bashkimi).
On Jones: Strengths: Forward with good size for the 3 position. Aggressive offensively using his length to go inside against smaller players … Has a decent midrange game and some polished moves going to the basket … Has good length, long wing span … Solid rebounder … Stays with in his comfort zone, doesn't try to do too much or get out of control … Improved defensively showing the ability to pick up a fair number of steals … His overall feel for the game is solid.
